Barbells - Choosing the Right Barbell Set

Weightlifting is always an important part of strength and endurance training. That's why you need to choose the right weightlifting equipment especially barbells for your body type and fitness goals.

Find the barbell for your body

The weight of the typical barbell can range from 10 pounds up to 100 pounds. The weight can usually be adjusted by adding or removing discs attached on both ends of the pole, but there are some barbells with fixed discs (usually in the 5-, 10-, and 20-pound increment, often called dumbbells). The discs are usually made of cast iron. They should be easy to remove, easy to adjust, and easy to replace and customize for the strength of the weightlifter.

Barbells are associated with strength. You can use barbells with your weightlifting routine: deadlifts, bicep curls, bench presses, and squats. However, remember that there are proper ways of lifting that you must follow to prevent injuries. Never attempt to lift weights without a partner if you have never tried it before, or you could injure yourself.

Olympic or standard?

Choosing the right set of barbells is easy just make sure that you are comfortable with the grip that the barbell won't slip even if your hands are sweaty. Consider buying those with rubber bumper plates so that they won't easily bend or break when you drop them.

If you are a professional weightlifter or you simply own a gym, consider buying the Olympic set with weights that can shoot up to 800 pounds. If you are just going to use them at home, choose the Standard set instead.
